Sun
In His warm rays you will find healing for your life.
The sun is the nearest star to us. Its rays have positive effects on us: sunlight kills fungi and bacteria living on our skin. Besides that, sunlight helps our skin to produce vitamin D required for proper function of our muscles and bones. Surely you knew about all of this before, but there are three much lesser known facts about the sun.
QUESTION: What color is the Sun?
In general people think that the sun is yellow or orange, but it is not so. For instance, the sunset on Mars looks blue. The Sun is perceived in yellow tones because of a phenomenon called “atmospheric scattering.” The sun itself is white!
Sometimes people think they know what God is. But it is only Jesus Christ who knows what God really is:
“No one has ever seen God. The uniquely existing God, who is close to the Father’s side, has revealed him.” (John 1:18)
QUESTION: Does a person’s mood depend on the weather?
Scientists have discovered that when the sunlight hits the retina of our eyes, our body produces melatonin. This substance is a natural antidepressant that provides relaxation and restful sleep leading to restoration of the whole body.
The Lord is kind, and it is not surprising that in the Bible, He is called our Sun:
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord grants grace and favor; the Lord will not withhold any good thing from those who walk blamelessly.” (Psalm 84:11)
QUESTION: What would happen if you dripped a “drop of the sun” near your house?
The sun is so hot that if a drop of its core fell on the Earth’s surface, no living organism within 150 km would survive its fall. In the Bible, the holiness of the Lord is also called an all-consuming fire:
“For our God is an all-consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:29)
Nothing that is sinful can stand in the presence of the holy God. That is why we desperately need Jesus Christ, who became a “sun-screening” salvation for us!
PRAYER: Worship God while meditating on His availability, His kindness, and His holiness. Thank Him for Jesus who revealed to us the bright light of the heavenly Father.
